Here's a simple tutorial on creating pages.
Step 1: Log into your site. ( top )
You need to be logged into the site in order to make any changes.
Step 2: Create / Edit your page ( top )
If you want to create a new page:
- Click "Home" on the main menu.
- Choose "New" on the sub menu.
- Enter a name for your page... this will also be the title for your page.
Otherwise to edit an existing page:
- Navigate to the page you want to edit.
- Click on "Edit" on the sub menu
Step 3: Add your content ( top )
A page can be as simple or as advanced as you desire.
In the simplest form, think of a page as a text/Notepad document: what you type in is exactly what you see.
Simple page example
Try the following in a new page:
- Enter
Hello World
in the edit box.
- Click on "Preview" button.
Beneath the edit box, you'll now see a preview of your new page.
Simple page with table of contents
Let's expand on the above example, and add a table of contents to your page.
Single heading
- In the edit box, now enter
==My Heading==
as the first line.
- Click on "Preview" button.
Your edit should look like this:
You've now create a simple page with a heading.
Add another headings
Let's enhance your page and add a second heading like:
Update your edit box by adding some extra lines:
Once again, click Preview, and you'll see your page again with the extra heading you just created.
Add a sub heading
You can add a sub heading to a main heading by simple adding an extra
=
symbol around the heading name.
Try adding a secondary heading by using
===
instead of
==
around the name of your heading. Remember, headings must start with the same number of
=
symbols: you can't have
===
==Heading=
===
(missing a
=
on the right side.
Now you've created a mini document with a table of contents and 2 levels of headings. You can create up to 4 sub levels of headings..
This is the end of this basic tutorial. For a full list of markup approaches to enhance your simple document, click on the "Help" sub menu above.
Step 4: Saving your page ( top )
This is the easy part... just click "Publish".
If you only see "Save Draft", click that instead... and ask a manager to review and Publish your page.
Step 5: How do people find your page? ( top )
If you are simply editing an existing page:
- it's unlikely you need to do anything else.
- just follow the existing menu links in order to arrive at your page.
- If you are still seeing the old page, despite having clicked "Save Draft"... then you need a manager to publish the page for you.
If you've created a new page, you have several options:
- Add your new page to the main menu bar. Click on the on the right of the main menu in order to add a new menu.
- Edit an different existing wiki page and reference your new page in it.
- To do this, edit another existing page.
- Add
[[My New Page Title]]
somewhere in this new page (don't use "My New Page Title"... use the name of your new topic).
- Save the other existing page.
- Your new page will now appear in the existing page as a hyperlink.
